How to Delay Global Warming

I use the word delay to emphasis the fact that, that’s about all we can do!

Global Warming……! Yes, I know, you have heard it all before. However, the fact remains that it is real and will probably result in the demise of a substantial amount of the World’s population.

We, in the Western World, must strive to set an example for other nations to follow. I will not go on about how we have allowed this to happen, or use scare mongering tactics to make you read this article.

I shall just rely on you using your common sense!

Oil, that’s why half the World is fighting the other half, We still have enough left to keep us going for another 10 years, after that the vast majority of us will not be able to afford it. Think about it, no more cheap motoring. I know there are alternatives to oil, but one way or another; they all leave us with a price to pay.

We have to change our mind set!

The first thing you must do is …SLOW DOWN…, yes!

Remember these are suggestions that will improve the planet for your children. Now, by slow down, I mean your speed whilst driving. It’s simple really, if you never drive faster than 50mph/80km on motorways and 30mph/50km on all other roads, the saving on oil would be quiet substantial.

On time however, it will increase no end. For every action needed to slow up the inevitable, there will be a reaction.

Unworkable, probably, but we must try, and we must make others see that this is a start. Bumper stickers or something in the car window showing you are trying, and maybe we could shame others into following!

Do you drive a substantial distance to work? Well it is time you found work close to home; if you could find a job within 5 miles of where you live, you could ride a bike!

Incredible, not only do you get to spend more time with your family, you get fit too!

Do you fly?

Well you can’t, holiday at home, take the train or bus. If you fly for business, then use the internet, the technology is available to meet as good as face to face.

I am already aware that the only people who would be prepared to make the sacrifices needed to delay Global Warming are “Joe Public”. You only have to look at how greedy business people have already dropped the rest of us in deep dodoo’s, but at the end of the day, there are more of us than them. If they do not toe the line then ostracize them. Don’t buy from their company’s, they need us more than we need them

Imagine how much fresher the air would taste without a large proportion of our current pollution levels, a reduction in Asthma in children, perhaps even a drop in ADHD, especially if we stop feeding our kids junk food!

The truth of the matter is that, one day in the very near future, we will have no choice but to do this, why wait until the air is so bad that you won’t notice the difference.

Global Warming

So what now!!

Is this real? I mean, is it really real. Only, if it is, then why are we doing our best to ignore it.

Firstly, I am no Scientist; in fact I hold absolutely no qualification that would warrant you taking the slightest notice of anything I may say.

However, I am a member of the Human race, and as such, I feel that I have the right to hold an opinion.

My Opinion…….Yes!….it is real!

In fact, it is so real; it scares the living daylights out of me!

I am apt to be quite opinionated, but in this case, I have, to a certain existent, literally felt quite lost for words. Perhaps I am missing something very significant about the way the World seems to be reacting to the ‘Threat of Global Warming’, because, to me , we seem to be taking it in much the same way as …‘ oh!, that’s a shame, hope it all gets better soon’…!

And why are we acting this way?

Mixed messages,

One day you pick up the paper and the headline says…’Ice Flow Melting’…the next day a valid expert is predicting that nothing will happen, and that we are all over reacting….the Y2K syndrome all over again.

Mixed Messages,

The Governments of the World seem to hold Summit meetings and set targets, only to meet the following year to explain why they have not met them. Then they plan another summit to discuss their failures.

What!……… That’s pathetic!….but unfortunately….. All too true.

And so it goes on….week in and week out….someone says its real and happening, whilst another will tell you it’s just over reaction. Lucky for us, most of us are pretty stupid. And those that still have to think to survive…..you know…the poor… the starving…the homeless….the refugees….well, they’re too busy trying to stay alive.

So that’s ok then, just for a minute there, I thought we were in trouble.

We Are!…...Big Trouble!

We are now entering a time that will see the collapse of our basic infrastructure. I don’t mean tomorrow, but I do mean the near future. I am now in my mid – fifties and may well miss the worst of it. It’s the children and the twenty something’s that will have to pay the price for our mistakes.

Am I making it sound bleak…..because, if I am, then I am failing?

‘The End of the World Is Nigh!’

Do you remember those strange people who walked about with those placards? I remember laughing at them when I was a kid…..But they were talking about a second coming…….the arrival of an all singing, all dancing, saviour, who would punish all sinners……for them, the sinners that is, the end of the World was nigh…..and me….I was just a kid so I had nothing to worry about.

I was born in the early Fifties…!

Life was good in Great Britain; we had the welfare state, a good free health service, plenty of housing in both the rental and buying markets. Work wasn’t hard to find and the cost of living was reasonable. People were in the main….contented.

The sixties saw a great time for us….the swinging sixties and flower power. The psychedelic era of great music and fab happenenings…..I was still at school, so got to watch most of it from the sidelines. But I felt the excitement and expectations of a great future…not just from youthful eyes, even my Grandmother said, she had never known a time in her life when everything was so fine.

The 70’s…..Still pretty good, work ok, hope and a good sense of wellbeing still existed…but there was change afoot…. maybe less housing and growing queue’s for state housing, more people were emigrating to Britain and something’s were not as abundant as before.

The 80’s…For the UK it meant Maggie!…strikes and even rioting in some of the major cities…Brixton I remember, because I was there, and saw it at first hand….our population was growing ….there was unrest at home.

I am not ignoring the rest of the World…Korea, Vietnam, The six day war and the problems for the starving in Africa and the acts of loonies, like in Uganda. Not to mention the ‘Cold War’ and the threat of communism. I am just saying it as it was for me….That is the problem……That is the way we always see things…..just from our own perspective….how it affects us personally.

And that is the problem now!

The 00’s……a shortage of housing, the collapse of the banking system, major companies going bust and a rise in the unemployment figures. I work for an agency, so we are the first to feel it, I am lucky to get more than three days work……..see!…….I am concerned with my day to day existence too!

We are so busy with life that we have just not seen this coming!

We still continue to fight in pointless wars…Iraq…Afghanistan…And for what…the oil…more pollution. World unrest is at an all time high. We all hate each other for our religions, our colour, our global position, the place we live, and many other reasons…..you pick one and someone will hate you for it.

Well now, it is too late…..!

I think we have passed the tipping point….we have ignored all the pollution and man made destruction of our planet, to a point where there is no putting it back together.

It has started, and we are all aboard for the ride….so sit back and watch folks!…should be fun!
