You only have to catch a couple of minutes on British television to realise how upset the country is. BBC radio is alive with commentary on the situation and the press are having a field day.

The cause of this mayhem! (for want of a better word). Members of the Government have been caught with their hands in the till.The peoples representatives, the voters expect to trust unquestionable, have been helping themselves, to those same people’s hard earned cash.

The claimed reason for this, MP’s expenses, they say “The guidelines are inadequate and lack control”.

In simple terms, MP’s cannot tell the difference between right and wrong! And yet, they claim to be fit and competent to run the country.

Today in the news, I noticed that we have protesters outside of the Houses of Parliament, one dressed as Guy Fawkes, he was the chap protesting at the antics of the Government way back in the 1660′s. The story can be found at the link to Guy Fawkes!

The sad truth of the matter is quiet simply, what is the alternative. There are three major political parties in the UK;

The Labour party, born out of the needs of the working man back in the 1920′s (ish).
The Conservative Party,founded on the back of the (tory party) in 1678 and until recent times was considered to represent the needs of the middle class and right wing followers.
The Liberal Party, known as the Liberal Democrats since 1988. Liberal meaning ‘modern and forward thinking’, most appealing to middle Britain, the undecided and often used as a ‘rebuff’ in general elections, to the two popular parties.

There are other political parties out there, The Green’s, UKip and the BNP spring to mind. All with their own agendas, be it white supremacy to recycling. They tend to make progress in local elections and the European Parliament.

So what is the alternative, to the layman, (that’s me), the three major parties are all as good (or bad) as each other, and the remaining parties just don’t cut it.
“I know” … Lets start ‘a new one‘. A brand new political party based on the current state of Great Britain and the World today. Brilliant! First you need a name …. next you need a manifesto, laying down your aims and objectives ….. and finally you will need a backer, unless you are financially well off and able to fund the promotion of your party yourself.

Now you need to register your party at the Electoral Commission site and pay the fee…£150…that’s not bad, so here we go… The Electoral Commission …. their closed?

The Country is in “Uproar“, we need a new party to get us out of this mess…and their closed, the reason given is the forthcoming elections for the EU, the site will not re-open until further notice.

Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse ‘v’ EMI

After EMI informed Danger Mouse that his new album ‘Dark Night of the Soul‘ would not be released due to ‘legal reasons‘, he decided to take matters into his own hands.
He has released the album with usual artwork and sleeve notes ‘but‘ the actual CD is a blank CD-R, now all you have to do is find it on a ‘bit torrent’, or other ‘p2p’ file sharing network and download.

The album, a collaborative work with fellow artists Sparklehorse, is available to listen to from here http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=104129585

There are additional contributions from Iggy Pop and The Flaming Lips, with artwork by David Lynch. Danger Mouse is quoted as saying ” I am very proud of the album , and hope people will get to listen to it by whatever means neccessary “.

Being more of a Sparklehorse fan myself, I have had a listen and will now be looking to download it.

The Revealing Science of God

Sometime back in the 1990’s, I had this ‘awakening’, for want of a better word. A kind of life changing, mind flash…..or to put it another way……I woke up and discovered that there was no ‘God’.
It felt like an instantaneous revelation, but in reality, it was no more than a gradual swing in the direction of a non believer. I had had doubts of that nature for some time, but part of me just wanted to keep on believing, out of comfort I guess.

This particular day, a date I can’t remember, despite its importance, was to be the first day in many years that I stopped praying. That was its significance, for me, a believer since my early childhood, the day I stopped praying.

A good few years have passed since then, many has been the time; I have debated with Christian friends and family, the perceived error of their ways. To me, I find their belief to be preposterous, how a grown adult can still believe in a naive institution, based on fairy tales and superstition, is way beyond my comprehension.
To me, it seems so obvious that we are just another form of life on this planet, the only difference we have to other creatures, is our ability to think, and therefore reason. And armed with the ability to reason, logic dictates that a God is an absurd idea!

So why do I feel like there is now something missing in my life. I mean that!
I really miss the comfort and peaceful state of mind that I felt when I prayed. An inner peace, contentment with my lot…well not completely, but I am sure you know what I mean.
Over recent years, as time has gently slid by, that feeling has grown to the point where it is often on my mind. I now find myself in a dilemma as to how to deal with it.
The obvious, and yet so wrong, conclusion to draw, is that I should return to the path previously trod. Become a born again Christian, I don’t mean in the megalomaniac way chosen by George W Bush, (idiot), pardon my feelings, but in a conventional sense, just glide slowly into the pews once more, as if I never left.

But I can’t do that, you see, there is no God, that’s the whole point of the exercise. There is ‘No God’ I can’t emphasize that enough! No god, doesn’t exist, never has, neither is there a Thor, a Woden or a Venus. They have all been made up; they have served their purpose in controlling weak minded individuals from darker times past, although they do still exist in the minds of some, and in a few cases, I can see why.

Having said that, there are of course, the many fanatics out there, who will never have the free will to understand this concept……you know who you are, you’re the ones who feel hurt or angry at reading this article.

I can feel empathy towards those individuals who have had their doubts, but have not acted upon them; actually admitting to yourself that you no longer believe is quiet hard, having the courage to stand up and shout it from the rooftops, is practically unheard of, with the exception of Richard Dawkins and a few others. And Richard Dawkins is the epitome of the Devil incarnate to some.
So where to go, and what to do, to surmount this problem!

Well that’s where I am now; I need to regain that comfort and peace of mind I used to take so much for granted.
There are alternative forms of religion, but at the end of the day, they are all much of a muchness………. Did you ever see… a drawing of a muchness? (Alice’s, Adventures in Wonderland).

I find that perhaps there is an answer in the old ways of religion; I speak of a time when early humans were in awe of the World, its power and magnitude. They worshiped the Sun, the Moon, the Oceans and the land. Maybe, just maybe, they were half way there!
Nature, the planet, our World…Welcome to my World..Ha!..Ha! Now there’s a thought, why not replace the old god with an (almost) real one. Planet Earth gives us the air we breathe, the food we eat and the soil we grow our crops in. So why not worship her…see, we even know what sex she is!

This is my dilemma, and one I wish to share with my fellow human beings, to see if we cannot, together, solve this small paradox.

PS. I already consider myself a Humanist…..Now I need to regain the peace of mind that prayer gave me……Who can I pray to, and still feel good!

Britain’s ‘Slave Trade’

It’s not often that a news item leaves you staring at the screen (PC in my case), dumbfounded! But a story on today’s (14th May 2009) BBC website, has done exactly that to me!

Not only is it shocking, it’s quiet unbelievable…….this is 2009..right!
How can this be happening under own own noses, why is our Government only at the committee stage, is this just another example of their inability to actually ‘Do Something!‘
We are talking about women and children here!….emphasis on the ‘Children’. I am not about to embark on a pointless diatribe of the rights and wrongs of immigration, and the threat to our borders, what I am going to say is…..I am a parent, a Father and a fellow human being…this must be Stopped…Right now!
No excuses and wasted tirades about the rights of the individual…..there just kids….Look after them!
Some have arrived on the backs of lorries after months of harrowing, and sometimes, life threatening journeys, alone, and without a single possession. Scared witless!…..no knowledge of our language and customs, possibly kidnapped from their own families, to feed a need, in a sick society.
Place them in a secure environment, give them love and nurture.
Is it no wonder that half of the World thinks of us as greedy capitalists!
Come on ‘Great Britain’….get your bloody act together!

A Call to Dissolve Parliament!

A striking headline and a sign of the times.

Following the Daily Telegraphs damning articles over recent days, it would appear that the average Citizen of the United Kingdom is quiet openly discussing this possibility.
Not since the time of Oliver Cromwell and the dissolution of the ‘Rump Parliament‘, has the general public been so ‘up in arms’ at the crass and downright disgusting behavior of our democratically elected ‘Members of Parliament’.
Common sense and general decency, appear to be severely lacking in their vocabulary. We, as the general public and electorate, have come to expect certain standards from our duly elected MP’s, not the least of which is trust and honesty. The worst of it, is that it is not just any one party, it’s all of them, the whole damn lot!, they are not there to represent our best interests, but there to line their own pockets, at our, (the taxpayers) expense.
Now listen to them bleat, as they realize that the game is up. “I am so sorry, it was an error”, “I made a mistake”, “It was an oversight”, and so on and so forth. Theft is Theft!, you people stole from us! now you must pay the consequence.
When was the last time you read in the papers, that a crook said he was sorry, and the Judge let him off…..! We demand justice for all! not just the plebs, (that’s us by the way).
Here is a word of advice and guidance for all UK MP’s.
If you have made immoral or illicit claims for expenses, and, or any other perks, ie dog food, swimming pool maintenance and second homes, then please return all monies claimed, tender your resignation, and leave…quickly!
The damage to the creditability of our current (herd) of MP’s, is, in my opinion, irreversible!
The time has come to ‘Dissolve‘ Parliament, and start again!

Hey, That’s us! Yes, you and me. And I am useless at pinball. But the parody applies, because we are, deaf, dumb and blind, otherwise why else would we stand and stare, as our Country slides into an ‘Orwellian’ State, likened to ‘1984’.

This is Great Britain today……

Our Country is run by Politicians who are corrupt, just look at their expenses claims and ask yourself, would a decent person make them. (Not to mention the back handed deals)

Our laws are designed to control the population and restrict our civil liberties.

Our Banks are corrupt and run by men whose prime motives are greed.

Our ex Prime Minister Tony Blair is a War criminal, who in collusion with the ex President of the United States, George W Bush, started an illegal War that has left over 1 million dead and 4 million with a refugee status.

Our Country is virtually bankrupt as a direct result of the criminal behaviour of our elected leaders.

Our jobs are rapidly disappearing, leaving us reliant on the State for benefits that are well below our needs to survive.

Our electric and gas bills are climbing to prices beyond our incomes, while the companies announce profits into the Millions.

Our house prices, although falling in value, are still way beyond the working man’s ability to pay the mortgage repayments.

Our State housing is practically nonexistent, due to past Government decisions to sell off the housing stock.

Our Country is over-run with immigrants, encouraged to move here by Industries happy to pay them a low income. Regardless of the consequences.

Our working man’s wages are now lower; to reflect the excess in the workforce, as a direct result in the Governments collusion with Industry to provide cheap labour from abroad.

I could go on,

We, as a Nation are on our knees. And there is no light at the end of this tunnel.

Have we all been caught up in our own personal struggles to survive the effects of all the above to not see what is happening around us……or are we just too ‘Dumb’ to care.

History tells us that, when this situation has occurred in the past, a ‘Revolution’ has followed.

‘Life, the Universe and Everything’

Since the dawn of Human kind, man has sought to explain his purpose in life; mainly I think to quantify his existence.
I don’t mean to speak in the third person but I am sure you understand what I am getting at
I also, have wondered and dwelt on this subject from time to time. What’s it all about, why are we here, where are we going.
If I were a religious person still, I guess I would not need to ask the question, as the teachings of the Bible, in my interpretation, simply state ‘that we are here to serve the purpose of God’
That, therefore raises another question, if you are a man of God, then you will not need to ask, and if you do ask, then perhaps you need to rethink your basic beliefs
Having set myself free of the need, to worship a deity, I have the right mindset to ponder the question without conscience.
Imagine, if you will, the Guru, who sits at the mouth of a cave, high up in the mountains, as he sits cross legged, looking out on his view of the World. His mind would be quite empty of distraction. His eyes would only be taking in the scene before him, probably consisting of more mountain peeks, ice or snow, subject to the time of the season. The slow drift of the clouds overhead, a glint of the Sun as it winds its way across the sky in pursuit of its daily routine.
Just for a second, he is momentarily distracted, as an eagle drifts into view, in search of his daily meal. His heart, missing a beat, as his brain scans in the new information. And then, back to the view, and his form of normality.
Would you seek out this man, to ask his advice on a life changing decision?
Well people did, and may still, to the best of my knowledge.

Server Problems

So how could a man, living as a recluse and surviving on the handouts of his followers, have the vaguest notion, on how to advise on such matters?
Quite simply, his only take on the World is what he sees, therefore he has no distractions. His mind, his brain, his capacity for thought, is unhindered by life’s many distractions.
He is free to apply all his powers of logic, to whatever proposition, that’s set before him, and therefore, quite likely to come up with the right conclusion.
I find this a reasonable and believable situation, and fully understand the faith people would place in his answer.

Why!

Well, imagine again that you have to make a life changing decision. Now take into consideration the distractions of everyday life, the conversations going on around you, the noise of traffic and clutter, and the input from your immediate vision. Its no wonder that we often say ‘I shall need to go away and think about that’.
We don’t hop a plane, and make base camp at the foot of Everest. We probably go down the pub and sit and stare into space, trying to muster the ability to clear our minds.
It’s human instinct to search out a place of seclusion to think, we cannot use our powers of imagination and image making, to arrive at life’s decisions, without this peace of mind.
It’s important to understand the way the Human brain works, to allow us to draw any conclusions as to ‘The Meaning of Life’.
You cannot ponder on such a quandary as this, with the interruptions afforded by 21st centaury life. You therefore, need to find a way to escape in your mind, from the, hear and now.
Well, it can be done, with the aid of meditation or, and, the aid of natures natural herbs.
But, I digress.

Confusion

What’s it all about

We appear to have come about, by some fantastic paradox in the thread of the Universe. Of which, I have no desire to dwell upon, at this time.
So, accepting our existence blindly, we are left with the question of ‘Why’.
We are a part of, ‘The wonder of Nature’.
And in Nature, the rule of thumb appears to be that, everything living, serves a purpose, be it, as a part of the food chain, or as a subsidiary, to the co-existence of another living thing.
Therefore, we do have a reason, and purpose to exist, or we would have been eradicated long ago.
Great! We have established our right to be here, by using the power of logic.
So now, all we need to do is discover our purpose.
I personally do not think it is to make as much money as we can, and drive gas guzzling cars around the delicate environment, that we live in.
WE, as humans, appear to be, the superior species on our Planet, armed with the power of communication and reason. And as we have already established, this is by no means an accident, but a requirement of Nature, to maintain the natural balance.
Now it’s all falling into place, we do have a purpose, and a very important one. We are here to maintain the ecological balance of Natures creation.
‘Excuse me!’
‘Did I hear that right?’
‘Afraid so’ We are supposed to be the ‘Caretakers’ of the Planet.
We should be busying ourselves making sure that all living things are looked after, and maintained, to the best of our ability. We should be instructing our children to respect and love our environment, and all the wonders Nature has provided. Not just for our pleasure, but for the good of all living things.
‘Now that makes sense’

The Meaning of Life

At last, now we can all busy ourselves doing what we were meant to.
Ha! Ha! Some hope.
Now where was I, ah! Yes, just about to declare war on some one or other.

In Conclusion

You have to see the logic, and simplicity, in this answer, and after all, isn’t life supposed to be simple.
Why do you suppose, we get so much pleasure from tending our gardens. Is it not stamped in to our genetic make up? We all have, deep down inside us, the urge and desire to be self sufficient, to run off to the country side and grow our food and live in peace with Nature in idealic surroundings.
So, basically, we have made a complete and utter mess of that one, have we not?
And, unfortunately, short of the annihilation, of at least half of the Human race, and massive re-indoctrination of the remaining population, we don’t have much hope of ever putting that one right, do we.
These are my thoughts on ‘The Meaning of Life’ and I think, I put forward a good, and well rounded argument, for this to be the fact of the matter.
