WordPress is now up and running, what next…Well there is a positive army of plug ins available to download, so what to pick and why.

AdSense Manager
Having decided to try to raise some income from sharing my thoughts with the World, my first port of call was with Google AdSense. Now before I get inundated with a multitude of reasons as to why I should, or should not have picked AdSense, remember that this is my first attempt at setting up a, hopefully professional looking blog, and therefore (without the aid of guidance), it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Having said all that, I must confess that apart from installing it as a plug in, and enabling it, I have not done anything else, seems to be working though, I believe it is supposed to rotate the ads.

All In One SEO Pack
This one does what it says on the tin….Search Engine Optimization…just downloaded mine blindly and enabled it, it must be working because my pages appeared in Google search within two days…pages on my other site www.bobwcain.com took upwards of two weeks to appear.

WP auto tagger
Now tags are something that I failed miserably to fully understand on my own website, luckily my wife came to my rescue, and very patiently went through all my pages and added them where and when necessary. So for me, this plug in was compulsory. Again, it works as if by magic, Ha! Ha!…..I just go with the recommendations, but you have the ability to add tags or remove them as you see fit.

Sociable
Your sitting there feeling very pleased with yourself, your first post is now ready to publish, would it not be a great idea to be able to have your post linked to the many social websites now available. Well this is the tool that makes that happen. Again, install, enable and Pow!, your now, clambering readers, can link to your posts from Twitter or Facebook etc, etc, …how cool!

WP-Sticky
Now this is a clever tool, as found in most, if not all, forums. By default, WordPress automatically sends your latest post to the top of the pile, not always a good idea, particularly if you are running a series of posts together. eg, this post and the ‘Learning To Blog‘ post that starts this article. Once enabled, it allows you to select between sticky, announcement or normal. I chose sticky for this post and Announcement for the aforementioned ‘learning to blog’ post…make sense?

OK, so that is it so far, I am still well in the learning stage, and will quite happily share anymore of the wonders of WordPress as and when I discover them….Keep an eye on this post, as I will be updating on a very regular basis……hope this has helped so far…..Don’t forget to comment or share any more plug ins or ideas you have found useful too!
